August 31, 2024 is International Overdose Awareness Day,
a global campaign to end overdose

This is a day to remember those who have died from drug overdose, to encourage support and the recovery of those impacted by substance use and overdose, and to prevent and reduce drug related harms by sharing and supporting evidence-based practices.

In support of this important campaign and to support our mission to partner to better care, the Michigan Center for Clinical Systems Improvement is sharing free evidence-based training opportunities and resources to prevent overdoses and save lives.

Testimonial by Laura Saunders, MSSW, Great Lakes ATTC – “After 25 years of experience teaching and training for the provision of SBIRT in health care, school and mental health settings, my passion and the scientific support has grown. The systematic inclusion of universal screening and brief assessment for the use of drugs and overuse of alcohol is critical to the provision of accurate care of physical and mental health issues. Not only do we as providers do better work with a clear picture of how alcohol and drugs show up in a person’s life, increasing our comfortability with talking about it in non-traditional treatment settings helps with stigma. Taking the time to learn to deliver SBIRT in your setting will improve outcomes for payers, providers and most importantly patients.”

Treatment of Pain With Substance Use Disorder Learning Series

This free three-part on-demand learning series explores pain management considerations for individuals with or with a history of substance use disorders (SUD). This series will provide the learner with definitions of opioid use disorder (OUD) and SUD, treatment options, managing patient expectations, communication strategies, non-opioid therapy options, and team-based treatment options.
